Head of Sharia Control
Job Purpose:
- A subject matter expert to lead, plan and direct the development and implementation of Islamic Sharia strategy, policies and procedures across the UAB.
- The role is responsible to manage all matters related to Sharia governance as well as Islamic banking regulatory requirements which include directives and guidelines of the Higher Sharia Authority (HSA) of the CBUAE.
- This includes assessing the effectiveness of the Islamic Sharia Supervision to ensure compliance with the regulations.
- The role is responsible to enable regular meetings of the ISSC and documenting the discussion/actions points of the meetings.
- The role has also to work closely with other governance and control functions of the Bank to ensure all sharia governance regulations are complied with.
Job Description
- Jointly support to the Head of Risk and Head of Compliance in fulfilling the internal Sharia control functions in line with the Sharia Governance Framework & applicable policies.
- Ensure the effectiveness of the internal Sharia supervision and assess the products, services forms, contracts, agreements and other related matters approved by the ISSC. Also managing administrative matters related to ISSC and conducting research for related Shariah issues requested by ISSC.
- Provide Shariah expertise and knowledge on structuring and developing of new Sharia complaint products and ensure all Sharia requirements of Higher Sharia Authority (HSA) and Internal Sharia Supervision Committee (ISSA) are incorporated.
- Preparing and organizing the meetings of the ISSC and preparing and drafting the minutes of the meetings.
- Communicating the resolutions to the Internal Sharia control division and following up with the resolution implementation
- Filing fatwas and the resolutions.
- Reviewing all Islamic branding, promotion, marketing materials for assigned Islamic banking products to ensure accurate information are incorporated and the language used are in line with Islamic banking principles
- Conduct training for staff engaged in Islamic finance.
Job Requirements
- Must have a University degree in Islamic Sharia or relevant specialization
- Have a professional certificate in Shari`a and Islamic banking control from one of the organizations that supports Islamic Finance like AAOIFI, CIBAFI etc.
- Have an experience of 10 years (at least) in the field of Sharia supervision
- Should have sound understanding about Islamic finance and Sharia governance framework
- The candidate should have a good command on English and Arabic language.
